Giving back is one of the greatest joys in my life. I love finding a mission that makes me excitedly roll up my sleeves and get to work.
I have connected and supported great organizations over the years, such as: SaintA, The Women's Center, Milwaukee VA Hospital, Milwaukee Rescue Mission, Special Olympics Wisconsin, Gals Institute,LLC, Wisconsin Humane Society... I have also provided countless hours to local schools, helping with marketing and strategy building, and even teaching Meditation & Mindfulness for students... Each one touching my heart in a big, big way.
So, when Camp Hometown Heroes was brought to my attention, I knew in an instant I had to get involved. Their mission is to provide support, healing, and acknowledgement of first responders, soldiers, and their children & families in need. To help this mission, they provide a FREE week long summer camp for children that have lost their parent or sibling in service to our country.
And why do I choose to support this mission?
Many reasons, but the main is that my husband served in the US Army, and had a (15) month tour to the Middle East. It was hard enough for all of us adults to process our soldiers leaving for war, but all the children that were forced to navigate that reality too, broke my heart. Thankfully, my husband and everyone in his unit, made it back to US soil safe and sound… countless other families across our area lost their soldier to duty. Camp Hometown Hero's stepped up and said, "Let me help to heal these families, by helping the children process their grief". That right there resonates deep, deep within my Soul.
Camp Hometown Heroes has been hit HARD by the recent pandemic and their services are in jeopardy of surviving. WE ARE GOING TO HELP THEM...
